Little thread on detectorists and farmers

Just came across the following thread about some farmers views on detectorists. Was interesting. Shame to see some farmers having such poor experiences with some detecting morons.

  1. That was certainly an interesting read and the answers from most of the farmers were exactly how I imagined they would be, hence why I can't cold call myself. Yep, your right, its the un-responsible detectorist that's ruined it for everyone else mainly.

  2. Yes it is always the actions of a few who colour landowner's judgement for all. No easy answer to this as once the decision has been made it is difficult to turn around. Still it gives a green light to the hawkers so that causes grief to all and that causes more resentment and all detectorists are tarred with the same brush.

All this achieves is that farmers can carry on blitzing the ploughsoil archaeological resource as there will be no one to recover their property for them and save it from further degradation. What a waste of a fast diminishing resource.
