Strange lead object and finds for today

Went out for a few hours today and this is the result. Nothing to retire on today but some curious little bits and pieces.

The lead object is quite interesting. Almost looks like a Colosseum pattern. Any ideas welcome!

The little brooch type object is pretty to.

Will pop them in the FLO box and then back at work tomorrow so will have some more time to ponder a comment over on the 'About me' page on how to stop night-hawking.

I also noticed some more moans about detecting rallies. Can't say they appeal to me apart from a chance to meet people I guess.

  1. Some more interesting bits there, you did a lot better than me today.

Yes I read about a couple of rallies held this weekend. About a dozen members of our club traveled up to one of them. It was a two day affair and they planned to do both Saturday and Sunday. Most of them traveled back after doing Saturday because it was so bad.
Done a couple of rallies myself in the past, but am not keen on them.

  2. Rallies = No control or standards... I went on one a few years back and all of a sudden 100 people were let loose onto a field... After 30 minutes there were only 15 people detecting because the "majority" had determined that it was a rubbish field and they went off to another nearby permission that had yielded finds in the past. The rally mentality (and that of some other detectorists) is one that I will never understand. Best to set your own standards and live by those...!

  3. Agreed Steve. PAS say big rallies are "problematic" and we all know what they truly mean by that. So the search for what "Responsible Detecting" means can take a step forward: attending large rallies is incompatible with responsible behaviour.

Also, there are a few remarks on that thread to the effect that despite almost no finds people were pleased to be "doing my bit for charity". Tell you what, let all of us here demonstrate responsibility by calculating our petrol to those 2 events plus the 2 entry fees and sending that total amount to charity, thereby pleasing the charities and PAS!

    Deal? ;)
